Who we are
Sustainable St Albans is a charity (no. 1173118) was set up by a group of local people to help make St Albans District a more environmentally sustainable place to live.
Together we find positive and creative ways to act locally to raise awareness and address the challenges of climate change; live more sustainably and move towards a low-carbon economy.
We are a member of the UK-wide Transition Network and the St Albans Climate Action Network.
Together with St Albans Friends of the Earth we organise the award-winning annual Sustainability Festival, as well as activities, events, projects and resources throughout the year.

We’d love you to get involved in any aspect of our work. We’re all volunteers and welcome contributions from anyone with an interest in living sustainably – as a volunteer or trustee. We also welcome people to become free members – sign up to be a member here.

Governance and trustees
Our trustee group meets every month. You are welcome to join in as an observer, or to come and discuss an issue. We are always looking for new trustees – contact us if you’re interested.

Awards, sponsors and funding
In 2019 we were the proud winners of the inaugural Hertfordshire Sustainabilty Forum Award. We’ve also won the Mayors Pride Award 2016 for Community Project of the Year, Sustainable St Albans Week won Environmental Champion in 2016, and Sustainable St Albans won Environmental Champion in 2017.
We were funded by Great Big Green Week to provide expert advice and support to community groups setting up their own sustainability festivals and events. We have secured funding in our work from County, District and Parish councils locally as well as Locality Budgets of our County councillors and a range of national and local trusts and foundations.
