Community Sponsor Spotlight: @TheBRETrust – the largest independent charity in the UK dedicated to improving the built environment

Today’s spotlight on our sponsors falls on the BRE Trust, one of our Community Sponsors.  The BRE Group is committed to supporting the delivery of a sustainable built environment globally, nationally and locally.  As such, they will be supporting Sustainable St Albans Week – 21 – 29 April 2018.

Founded in 1997  the BRE Trust uses profits from the BRE Group to fund new research and education programmes that help to meet their goal of ‘building a better world together’.

A registered charity, the Trust commissions BRE and BRE Global, along with their university and other partners, to conduct research that generates the knowledge, skills and tools needed to create a better built environment for all.

Over the last 20 years they have funded more than £20m of research, published over 300 new or updated titles and supported more than 300 post-graduate students. They have also been able to attract extensive additional funding from both government and private sector sources, and have developed a growing network of partners and collaborators whom they work with and support.

The findings of this research have been disseminated in over 3,000 peer-reviewed papers, conference proceedings and books, and more than 2,000 students have graduated from BSc and MSc courses supported by the Trust.

As part of their support for Sustainable St Albans Week 2018, they have arranged the following events:

Dr. Deborah Pullen, BRE Trust Group Research Director

“The delivery of a sustainable built environment is at the very core of BRE’s values and activities, and overall mission of the BRE Trust (owners of BRE).  This not only includes the quality of the buildings that people live, work, learn, play and generally occupy, but the very fabric of our urban environment and level of excellence throughout the supply chains that deliver it.  To this end, in the past year, we have invested over £750k into research projects, PhD Studentships and Professorships across our Partnership Programme. We are delighted to have the opportunity to support our local community in the realisation of their own sustainability aspirations; built environment related and beyond.  We hope that our open afternoon presentations on Monday the 23rd , in partnership with Look! St Albans, will help people further shape these aspirations and empower attendee’s to see them fulfilled*. It is only by working together that we will make the advancements necessary to secure the future we, and next generations, rightly deserve.”  Dr Deborah Pullen, BRE Trust Group Research Director
