Sustainable St Albans Week 2018 couldn’t operate without the support of so many local organisations. We thought we’d take this opportunity to focus on each of our sponsors, in the run up to the week. Today’s spotlight falls on AECOM, Allsopp Estate Agents and Godfrey’s Fish & Chips, three of our Gold Sponsors.
AECOM are a global network of experts working with clients, communities and colleagues to develop and implement innovative solutions to the world’s most complex challenges. They believe that healthy societies depend on physical and social infrastructure to advance economic opportunity, protect our environment and improve people’s lives. AECOM embrace their responsibility for those goals by raising the standard for sustainable management practices in both their internal operations and the delivery of services.
Recognized by Fortune magazine as a World’s Most Admired Company, AECOM deliver new opportunities for clients and communities by continually focusing on economic, environmental and social impact. Whether reducing greenhouse gas emissions, developing new ways to conserve water or promoting renewable energy, AECOM’s commitment to sustainability drives innovation, reduces risk and provides attractive project life cycle returns on investment. Ranked as the #1 green design company in the United States by Engineering News-Record, AECOM believes the difference they make is felt in every region of the world.

Godfrey’s Fish & Chips
“I opened Godfrey’s in 2012, with my mum and dad, who have worked in the fish and chip industry for over 30 years. We take pride in serving simple but delicious fish and chips and being at the heart of the local community. We look forward to welcoming you.” Luke Godfrey, Owner and Manager of Godfrey’s
Godfrey’s cook all their food fresh to order – so hot and crisp fish and chips straight from the fryer. They peel and chip the potatoes each morning which are then double cooked to give a perfect chip – fluffy on the inside and crisp on the outside.
All their fish comes from sustainable sources. Their cod, haddock and rock is MSC certified which means they’re helping to guarantee we can all enjoy fish and chips for years to come. And it’s not just their fish and chips that are prepared with love – their pies are homemade, their sausages free-range and their homemade tartare sauce is the best you’ll ever taste!
Sustainability is really important to them!
- Their fish is fully sustainable. They were the first takeaway and restaurant in Hertfordshire to have full Marine Stewardship council certification.
- All of their packaging is completely compostable
- They use 100% green electricity generated through solar, wind and tidal power
- Their restaurant toilets are flushed using rainwater
- They recycle all paper, card, glass, tins and plastic
- All their food waste goes to an anaerobic digester – producing compost and power
Godfrey’s Fish & Chips are thankful for the support they receive from the local community, they love being able to give something back by supporting local charities, organisations and schools.
They’re proud to be a Platinum Partner with the Hospice of St Francis which provides care for people living with life-limiting illnesses in our local area. In addition, they’re the main sponsor for the Harpenden Film Society, what better way to spend the evening than watching a great film after some Godfrey’s fish and chips!
Godfrey’s have given talks in several local schools on topics including sustainability and opening a business. They’ve also taken ‘Godfrey’s on Sea’ to local events including the Harpenden Carnival and St Albans’ Food and Drink Festival. Look out for their pop up beach this summer!
