What is the SustFest Market Takeover?
The Sustainability Festival 2019 is taking over the St Albans Market for a whole day on Sunday 19th May! It’s all about how local residents can reduce their carbon footprint and live more sustainably.
We are interested in any organisation that wants to take part: we already have lots of organisations booked for the event, and we still have spaces for more! Whether you want a stall, can run an activity, or play music, juggle or dance!
I want to take part in the Market Takeover: more information and contact Craig Scudder
Craig will reserve you a space and then contact you when our booking system opens.
See below for all the exciting information about the Market Takeover!
The Market Takeover – from 11am to 5pm – will have food/drink stalls, live music and other entertainment, children’s activities, and environmental charity stalls.
We have a huge display of electric vehicles, electric bikes, pedal bikes, local youth groups and other stalls that promote sustainability and reducing your carbon footprint with a focus on the five main things residents can do to reduce your carbon footprint and live sustainably.
The event is being sponsored by St Albans BID.
The take-over event will be on the space in front of the musem, and stretch up St Peter’s Street. Market Place and Spencer Street will be closed to traffic, to allow for test riding bikes.

Information for stallholders and other participants
Note: the SustFest19 Market Takeover is sponsored by the local business organisation, St Albans BID.
The event will be heavily advertised beforehand. There will be banners and posters around town and every household in the borough will get information about Sustfest and the Market Takeover through their doors, along with their council tax information. We also have a good social media presence with over 2,000 followers. Last year our event leaflet went to every household in the district and on top of this we printed and distributed almost eight thousand programmes.
Market footfall on a Sunday in May in the town centre is about nine thousand.
- We have again been awarded an unusual FOURTH lottery grant this year, because of our track record in engaging the local community with environmentally sympathetic events, causes and actions.
- We have won two Mayors Pride Awards as Environmental Champion.

All stallholders will be asked for a £50 deposit when our booking system opens in a few weeks, to confirm they are definitely attending! After the event you can have the money back if you’d like. Note: If the deposit is going to be hard for you, we can forgo it as long as we have your undertaking that you’re coming.
