All our projects and events are run by local people, who give up their time for free because they are passionate about the environment and want to make a difference. Simply put, the more people we have, the more we can do.

We need self-motivated, skilled people who can get things done. Here are some of the roles we need people for:

Help with administration and coordination of projects; several of our projects need extra co-ordination, especially the Thermal Imaging Team (administering lending the camera out, plus admin around the training sessions) and the Schools Group. Even simple things like arranging meetings and taking the minutes really helps share the load! We also need someone to help support our Trustees group, by arranging and minuting meetings, and helping prepare the agendas. You could also help coordinate other volunteers.

Help with communications; each project needs help with updating their project website page, doing regular social media posts, creating fliers and newsletters, plus we need central comms support with the website, posting blogs, doing social media, and press releases.

Help with fundraising; researching funders and drafting funding applications, either for SSA as a whole or for a particular project.

Help with running events; our Events Team and the Our Planet Our Future team (in Harpenden) both need 2-3 more people who can help plan, arrange and run these events.

Become a Climate Champion and talk at events about climate change and local action; we need to build up a group of people who are comfortable to speak at events about the climate, why action is important, and what SSA does.

Become a trustee of Sustainable St Albans. There are currently seven trustees, who carry the responsibility for strategy, governance and finances for SSA, but who also do a lot of work as well (we have no permanent staff). We need another 2-3 trustees who can bring their skills and also – critically – their time to bear, to help SSA flourish.
