The Climate Champs project has been in operation since 2021, giving businesses, organisations, schools, and groups volunteer speakers to visit them, in person or online, and present on Climate change and living a more sustainable life. We call this volunteer team The Climate Champions. We’ll be sharing profiles of each of our different volunteer Champs to learn more about what makes them tick and how their time with Sustainable St Albans is helping them increase our district’s understanding of the challenges and opportunities ahead.
In addition to being an active Climate Champ Terry also has a busy day job as a Commercial Manager in the utilities and civil engineering industry. Upon recognising the climate emergency Terry adopted some behavioural changes to make his own life more sustainable such as buying only 100% pasture-raised meat, not putting synthetic chemicals down drains, gardening organically and diverting grey water for use in the garden. These small transitional steps fitted with his lifestyle and he wanted to help inspire others to do the same.
Terry’s favourite thing about being a Climate Champ is interacting with the public and learning from each other. He finds it particularly uplifting to talk with families and especially hearing children describing the behavioral changes that we all need to make within our families.
His single tip for living a more sustainable lifestyle? “To tread more lightly on the earth we need to consume less.”
Climate Champions are available at no cost to speak with your organisation, group, school, business or friends. If you’d like to book a visit or find out more, please email us here.
