Sustainability Market – Meet the Stallholder Clementine Suds

Clementine Suds sells natural, plastic-free bath and beauty products at Harpenden Sustainability Market.

Clementine Suds

You can find Clementine Suds and their award-winning natural bath products at Harpenden Sustainability Market. Discover their soaps, lotions, bubble baths, balms, and gift sets in juicily vibrant (plastic-free) packaging on the 17th of November.

Founder Joline switched to DIY skincare when her children were small and she became more conscious about what her family was putting on their skin. She soon discovered she could make many of the products herself while reducing the amount of plastic in her house. Initially developing products alongside her traditional job, pandemic life made her realise life was too short to be stuck behind a screen. This kickstarted the brand and she decided to develop her products for other like-minded families to enjoy.

Clementine Suds soon outgrew Joline’s kitchen and she moved production to a farm studio the Herts-Bucks border – complete with cows as tea break companions! Space is essential for mixing and curing soaps, which can take between four and six weeks. Although Joline is the only full-time staff, she enjoys part-time support from her production assistants, particularly during the festive months.

Clementine Suds’ products include a moisturising soap infused with fresh lemongrass and fragrant ylang-ylang essential oils, lip and face balms formulated with organic shea butter and avocado oil, and miracle balms to melt away make-up and other impurities. And shampoo bars will soon join the product range. All products are approved under Cruelty Free International’s Leaping Bunny programme.

Plastic-free natural bath products

Plastic is a big no-no for Clementine Suds. All products are wrapped in compostable cardboard, recyclable aluminium or cornstarch shrink wrap – which you can compost at home. Because the products don’t contain water, they’ve been able to avoid any plastic.

Joline loves meeting her customers at markets, many of which love natural ingredients and plants. One customer loved the products so much she asked her local gift shop to stock Clementine Suds! Other customers have proved loyal, continuing to use the same products on a regular basis. Joline enjoys meeting skincare-savvy customers, including those less driven by eco motives. But the thing she enjoys most about Harpenden Sustainability Market is chatting to sustainability-minded customers who care about the little details.

One fellow stallholder Joline loves is The Weeping Chef. Not only are their vegan hot dogs delicious, they always have queues around the block and draw people to the market.

Her best eco tip?
